Holistic health is something you can only work towards once you start building a strong mind-body connection. Yogagrin® offers a range of yoga classes and holistic therapy programs in Sandgate and online that will specifically focus on helping you build that mind-body connection.

All Yogagrin® programs are designed for beginners and advanced beginners of all abilities and from all cultural backgrounds. So you don’t need any experience to make the most of your chosen class.

Every class is slow and gentle so you can feel your muscles working and really concentrate on connecting your mind and body safely and effectively.

We’ll adapt your class to ensure it offers you the right level of challenge no matter how experienced you are and regardless of your level of fitness and any health challenges you may be facing. You don’t need to be flexible to attend any class and if you have an injury or impairment, we’ll work together to ensure you can fully participate.

Information about class options and types is in the tabs below. There’s also a handy section on what to wear and what to bring to each session.

Class options

Yogagrin® offers the following class options:

Yogagrin® classes are designed to give you plenty of individual instruction regardless of whether you choose a one-on-one or small-group class. To help achieve this, group classes are limited to a maximum of eight people.

Whether a one-on-one or group class would be best for you largely depends on your specific health challenges and needs. As an example, if you find it difficult to concentrate in group situations you might start with a one-on-one class and then transition to a group class as we work to overcome that challenge.

If you’re not sure which option would be best for your situation, please get in touch with Yogagrin®’s Principal, Jan. She’ll organise an obligation-free, 15-minute chat to determine which option is best for you.

There’s a lot of diversity in our community so Yogagrin® runs several public group classes throughout the year that cater for a variety of health and wellbeing challenges. You can find dates and times for these classes on the Yogagrin® timetable page. Such classes are also advertised on the  Yogagrin® Facebook page from time to time and are included in Yogagrin®’s email update. To subscribe to our email list please provide your details on the subscription page.

If one of the public classes doesn’t meet your needs, you can contact Jan to book a private group class for your workplace, health care facility, or over 50s village. Similarly, if you would like help with a specific health challenge or special need and you know others who’re affected in the same way, Yogagrin® can develop a private program to meet your needs.

Face-to-face yoga classes and Holistic Therapy programs could be a great option if you live in Sandgate or one of the surrounding north-Brisbane suburbs such as Brighton, Deagon, Shorncliffe, Bracken Ridge, Taigum, Woody Point or Redcliffe, or perhaps further afield if you don’t mind travelling. These generally run from March to November each year.

If you are unable or don’t wish to attend a face-to-face class, a remote class may be perfect for you. Depending on your preferences and therapeutic requirements, you can participate in a remote Holistic Therapy program over the phone or online via video or chat.

Yogagrin® also offers yoga sessions for special events such as conferences, retreats, bridal parties, and team-building workshops. As an example, Yogagrin® proudly provided Chair Yoga Relaxation sessions at an NDIS Conference.

If you’d like to offer a yoga class at your next event, contact Jan to discuss options and your unique requirements.

Class details

Below is a description of each type of class Yogagrin® currently offers. Please visit the timetable page for current class dates and times, to book in for a class and for payment details.

Yogagrin® Gentle Flow programs offer a safe introduction to the holistic health benefits of yoga. Sessions teach slow, gentle yoga that will challenge your mind and body while at the same time leave you feeling relaxed and rejuvenated.

Every session can be adapted to each participant rather than being ‘one size fits all’. In fact, you’ll be given lots of options throughout each session so you can choose how challenging your classes are for you. You will be in control.

When you choose a Gentle Flow class, each session will focus on helping you connect your mind and body so you become more aware of your body and surroundings. You’ll be empowered to take control of your health and wellness and together we’ll help you achieve your health and fitness goals.

Holistic Therapy programs are tailored to help participants overcome a particular health challenge. When you choose a Holistic Therapy program, you’ll learn how to manage and reduce the impacts of your health challenge using the evidence-based, non-invasive, natural methods of yogic philosophy and Ayurveda coupled with modern science. You’ll receive informative resources and learn more about how your mind and body work so you can identify unhealthy habits and develop new, healing habits.

When you chose a one-on-one Holistic Therapy program, we’ll look at different facets of your life to ensure we identify all the factors that may be contributing to or exacerbating your condition. And then we’ll work together to develop systems, strategies and practices to help you begin to heal, get on top of your condition and achieve an agreed goal.

Yogagrin® Holistic Therapy programs can be designed to help you overcome a range of health challenges including:

  • Physical injuries, skeletal misalignments, and acute and chronic pain (e.g. back pain)
  • Emotional distress
  • Psychological illnesses and conditions such as depression, anxiety and stress (including stress related to caring for someone with a health challenge)
  • Multi-faceted conditions such as post-traumatic stress disorder

Each one-on-one holistic health program includes a pack of three or more sessions based on your need. Each pack includes:

  1. An initial intake session where we’ll explore your background, lifestyle, medical history, likes and dislikes, diet, work and family life, and other relevant aspects of your life, and set an agreed goal
  2. An evaluation of where you are, what’s out of balance and how we will work together to correct those imbalances
  3. A ‘script’ that includes a series of activities designed to help you achieve your goal, and correct any identified imbalances (this might include a short yoga sequence, breathing techniques, a walk in nature or some other activity that may help you heal) — you’ll be taught the script and we’ll make sure you’re confident about doing it on your own before you leave
  4. Two or more follow-up sessions where we evaluate the success of the script and make any adjustments based on your progress and how you’ve been getting on
  5. A complimentary pass to attend a Gentle Flow group yoga session

Throughout the program, with your consent, we will work in concert with your GP and other medical and allied health professionals.

From time to time, Yogagrin® offers group Holistic Therapy programs that target a particular health concern or cater to the unique needs of a particular group of people. Some examples of Yogagrin®’s group Holistic Therapy programs include:

  • Chair Yoga. This is a fun-filled yoga class for those with restricted or limited mobility. Even ‘wheelies’ can participate in chair yoga.
  • Yoga for Anxiety and Depression. If you struggle with anxiety and/or depression, you know they can be incredibly complex conditions to manage. That’s why Jan has developed expertise in holistic strategies for alleviating anxiety and depression through yoga.
  • Yoga for Back Care. So many people suffer from back pain at least once in their life yet there’re some simple steps we can all take to keep our backs strong and healthy. This program teaches participants how to use yoga to strengthen the muscles that support and protect the back, which prevents future back pain and reduces existing back pain. The program also gives tips on how to care for a particular back issue such as lower back pain or a skeletal misalignment (e.g. kyphosis, lordosis or scoliosis).
  • Wellness Program. This interactive program teaches participants how lifestyle and food choices can affect one’s moods and body and the yoga and Ayurveda techniques that can be used to identify and correct any imbalances.

Keep an eye on the Yogagrin® timetable and Facebook page for upcoming special classes. Or subscribe to the Yogagrin® mailing list to be the first to know about new classes.

If you’d like to request a group Holistic Therapy program on another topic or health challenge, please get in touch with the Yogagrin® Principal, Jan, to discuss your special requirements.

General class information

At every Yogagrin® session you can expect to have fun, enjoy yourself and leave feeling good.

New to Yoga? Don’t worry, everyone was new to yoga at some point, including me. You’ll find some things come naturally to you while others may feel a little strange or even uncomfortable.

That’s ok.

Allow yourself to have these different feelings and emotions but try not to get caught up in them. Understand that it’s taken many years for your body and mind to get where it is today so doing something different may take some getting used to. Have confidence in yourself and know that you will soon see positive change. It just takes time and regular practice. Be kind to and patient with yourself. Enjoy your journey and the whole experience.

If you are unsure of anything, please ask. The only silly question is the one you didn’t ask 🙂

Yoga practitioners are friendly people, so you are likely to make new friends along the way 🙂

All classes involve some form of body movement so it is best to wear clothing that will allow you to move freely without causing yourself or others embarrassment.

When practicing yoga we want to feel our connection with the earth, so we generally don’t wear shoes or socks, but it’s ok to leave them on if you need to. When it’s cool, you may be more comfortable wearing socks during Savasana (relaxation/meditation).

  1. A yoga mat (if you don’t have one you can borrow one of our spares until you purchase your own)
  2. A bottle of water (especially in warm weather)
  3. Warm clothing to keep yourself comfortable during the relaxation parts of winter sessions

If you’re new to Yogagrin®, please fill in this registration form and bring it along with you to your first class.

  • Don’t eat a meal for at least 2 hours before your yoga session.
  • Everyone coming to yoga is taking a break from technology, so please remember to switch off your mobile phone before every session.
  • It’s best to arrive at least 10 minutes ahead of your session time to register and settle in. Please do not arrive late as this will disrupt the session.
